  The crude but powerful EMP surge hit his body hard enough to propel him backwards across the roof. He didn’t feel the landing, nor was he aware of the half dozen bodies that emerged from the rooftop stairwell exit even as his legs and arms drummed a staccato beat against the ground. The last thought that went through his mind before the surge enveloped him in blackness was hope…hope that this would finally be the end of it all.
